TRIO Programs
The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Its existence is owed to the passing of the Higher Education Act of 1965. To date, TRIO is the second highest budget in the Department of Education and has bi-partisan support. TRIO is not an acronym rather, given its name after the first three programs: Upward Bound, Talent Search, Student Support Services – all offered at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Upward Bound (UB) began its legacy at Cal Poly in 1981.
