Welcome to the Upward Bound College Prep Program
The Upward Bound College Prep Program has been put into place to enable Upward Bound participants to identify and navigate the many resources and tools that surround them on their quest for college success. Upon completing all of the Level Workbooks, Upward Bound participants will have mastered the Upward Bound College Prep Program and will be ready to move into the college-phase of their education. This program is deeply enhanced by participation in regularly scheduled Upward Bound activities (Summer Academy, field trips, college visits, tutoring, and workshops) but can be used as a stand-alone unit. This will allow participants with full schedules to work on the program outside of Upward Bound activities. Completion of the grade level workbook is required for all participants, each year, for continued enrollment in the Upward Bound program.
All Workbooks are separated into levels according to high-school grade:
- LEVEL 1: Freshman – Final workbook due May 15th of participants 9th grade year
- LEVEL 2: Sophomore – Final workbook due May 15th of participants 10th grade year
- LEVEL 3: Junior – Final workbook due May 15th of participants 11th grade year
- LEVEL 4: Senior – Final workbook due Jan 15th of participants 12th grade year
- LEVEL 5: Senior – Final workbook due May 15th of participants 12th grade year
Participants who join the program after 9th grade will work through important aspects of the lower levels before starting at the recommended grade level. They will meet with Upward Bound staff to identify which lower level aspects to focus on before continuing at their current grade level.
Each Level is made up of several Badges, a pre-assessment and a post-assessment (used to measure learning). Completing all of the tasks within a Badge will result in the completion of that Badge. Completion of all Badges in a Level will result in the completion of that Level Workbook. Badges have a combination of activities that include watching videos, reading articles, viewing websites and personal reflection assessments.
Upon completion of a Badge, participants will have the Badge signed off, on the last page of the Level Workbook by an Upward Bound staff member. Upon completion of a Level Workbook, the Level Workbook should be turned in to the Program Coordinator or Director. Workbooks will be checked for accuracy and logged into the participants Upward Bound participation record. Workbooks will be returned and should be kept in the Upward Bound binder provided to each participant, for future reference. Upon completion and acceptance of a Level Workbook, participants will receive the next Level Workbook.
Participants will require internet access to complete the workbook. The optimal time to work on the program is during weekly school site tutoring sessions. This is an ever-changing document. Links and information are constantly being updated. For ease of access, a current list of links contained in each Level will be updated regularly, here.
